Year 6

Welcome!

Welcome to the start of another school year.  It has been really lovely to welcome your children back, and we are all looking forward to a fabulous term of learning.

As you know, Year 6 is a very important year, as we have the KS2 SATs coming up in May.  We will be working hard to make sure that your child is ready for these, but we cannot do this without your help.  Thank you in advance for all your support – it is always greatly appreciated.

Additional Role

Joining Grinling Gibbons in September 2017, I immediately felt welcomed into the school community. Both the children and adults in our school have a great enthusiasm for learning, as well as a sense of mutual respect and kindness. I am particularly pleased to be in Year 6, as it’s amazing to see the children mature over the year into confident, resilient and independent learners who are ready for secondary school.

What motivates me as a teacher is seeing children achieve new things and take pride in their successes – whether that be in sports, arts, extra-curricular activities or our core subjects, English and maths. As maths leader, my role is to ensure our children have an engaging maths curriculum that challenges every learner, as well as teaches them the skills they will need for adult life.

Additional Roles

I have worked at Grinling Gibbons Primary School since 2014.

I am proud to work here because it is such a friendly school where everyone looks out for each other: staff, children and parents alike. We have fantastic resources, dedicated teachers and children who love to learn, which makes working here very rewarding and enjoyable.

As a teacher, I have an interest in, and commitment to, each child.  I work to create a class environment which supports, extends and engages the learning of every child and I am committed to ensuring that children have opportunities to explore their aspirations and enhance their life chances.

Melissa Henry
Teaching Assistant Year 6 (Scale 5 TA)

I have worked at Grinling Gibbons for many years and have formed some great relationships with past and present pupils, staff and parents. I am a fun character and I think the qualities that I bring to GG brighten and uplift the school daily. There is never a dull moment when I am around.

I have a variety of experiences and skill sets that enhance, develop and encourage the children daily which I believe is extremely important in the development of children in reaching their full potential. My goal is to encourage children to be leaders and winners, and I reinforce this within children to give them a positive self-image and self-esteem; this in turn contributes to the whole school ethos.

Lesley Lawrence
Teaching Assistant Year 5 (5b)

Additional Roles

I have worked at Grinling Gibbons for over 20 years. I am proud to be part of such an amazing school and community. The children I work with are all wonderful with a love for learning, and this in itself, makes teaching fun and exciting.

I enjoy coming to work each day, and I myself am always learning new things. This helps me develop as a professional, and I always strive to be a positive role model for the children I care for.
