Welcome back to another exciting term

Welcome back to the final term. We hope you had a restful Easter break. This term is an important term as the children will be completing their SATS during the month of May. Please do not worry about these tests as we have been practising and preparing for them over the last two terms. Continue to encourage your child to do their best in their learning and to try and complete all the work they are set.

What we will be learning this term

English: Non-Fiction, non-chronological reports, biographies and poetry

Maths: Length and height, Mass, Position and direction, Time,

Computing: Algorithms

Science: Plants

RE: The stories Jesus told

History: Significant figures- Christopher Columbus & Neil Armstrong

Geography: Oceans (Atlantic and Pacific) and continents – North and South America

DT: Transport

PHSE: Going for goals and Changes

PE: Athletics and cricket

Music: Seaside Songs

Art: Constellations

PE days are Mondays and Thursdays

PE Kit needs to come to school on Mondays and stay in school until Thursday.

PE uniform: A pair of blue or black shorts or track bottoms, a white T-shirt and plimsolls or black trainers. Please ensure all clothes have your child’s name in it as the school will not be responsible for any lost or misplaced clothes.

Additional Responsibilities


My name is Carleen Archer and I have been teaching at Grinling Gibbons since 2003. When I first started here, I taught in lower Key Stage 2, but for the past 9 years I have been teaching in Key Stage 1.

I am presently Key Stage 1 Lead and the Year 2 class teacher. My additional responsibilities include the monitoring of the progress of Phonics, as well as Pupil Premium children across the school.

As the longest standing member of the teaching staff, I am immensely proud of the achievements of past and present students of the school.
