World Faiths

At Grinling Gibbons, we want all our children to develop a strong sense of what is right and wrong, and to understand about justice and fairness. We want them to learn the importance of respecting others, and to help them develop an appropriate concern for the welfare of others, as well as start to take some responsibility for the world in which we live.
Our community is diverse, with children, teachers, parents and carers from many different nationalities, faiths and cultures. Together we learn about the variety of religious communities and beliefs that exists within our classrooms, school and community, as well as within the world around us.

World Faiths comes under the umbrella of Religious Education, and at Grinling Gibbons we follow the agreed Lewisham Syllabus for Religious Education and teach this subject through age-appropriate topics.

Respect and tolerance for all

Respect and tolerance are key values which are explored regularly across our whole-school community, therefore, we teach our children that everyone has the right to practices a religion of their choice, or not, and that we should always respect the choices of others.

We also teach our children to have the courage to challenge any ideas which are restrictive, ignorant of, or damaging to the lives of others.

“We must restore hope to young people, help the old, be open to the future, spread love. Be poor among the poor. We need to include the excluded and preach peace.”
