Science

At Grinling Gibbons, we encourage our children to be curious about the world around them because it is important that they develop a love of science, where questioning and an exploratory attitude is at the very heart of learning.
In science, children need to be able to ask questions of their own, based on their observations and knowledge of their environment.  We want to develop their investigative skills through all five senses, as well as their ability to record and communicate their observations.  By following a programme of inspirational and engaging activities, our children learn the importance of working scientifically.

Century Tech

In school, we use the online science platform CENTURY tech. This is a tried and tested intelligent intervention tool which supports the teaching and learning of science in an engaging and interactive way. The platform provides a library of lessons, presentations and quizzes which helps to identify gaps in children’s science learning and addresses misconceptions.  Children can also access this at home, where they have the opportunity to revisit lesson content, so that they consolidate learning and can commit knowledge and skills to their long-term memory.

Special Science Events

Every year, we celebrate British Science Week with a week of exciting science-based activities across the whole school, aimed at further deepening children’s curiosity and love for this subject.

This event is launched with a whole-school stimulus, and concludes with a science fair where each class shares the learning that has been completed.
