Computing
In order to prepare our children for their future, we equip them with the skills to use creativity and computational thinking to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and DT, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. At the heart of computing is computer science, in which children are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming.
At Grinling Gibbons, we ensure that all children:
• can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation• can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems
• can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems
• are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology
ONLINE LEARNING PLATFORMS
As a school, we have invested in a range of online learning platforms across different curriculum areas. These engaging, online learning resources offer further support to children, as well as allow them to consolidate their understanding of different concepts. They include: Mathletics, Lexia, Developing Experts, Century Tech, Bug Club, Discovery Education Espresso and PiXL.
We encourage the use of technology throughout all areas of learning, and children have access to laptops, Chromebooks and iPads when at school.
