At Grinling Gibbons School we take security very seriously. Whilst remaining welcoming to our visitors, we ensure that no one can access the school without permission.
We have one main entrance which gives access to the Nursery and the main school. The main entrance opens onto the reception area where visitors to the school will be addressed by our office staff, and their query or reason for visit will be met and directed to the right person. The nursery gate is open for parents to drop off and collect their children at the following times: 11.15am – 11.25am (for morning collection) and 11.45am – 11.50am (for afternoon drop off). The main entrance will be opened at 8.20am – 8.35am, and again at 2.40pm – 3.00pm, for dropping off and picking up children from the main school. During these opening times, both entrances will be manned by at least one member of staff. Visitors at GG do not have access to the playground or the building and any visitors must report to the main school office.
The school also operates a CCTV system which covers the majority of the outside areas, as well as some internal areas. The CCTV is relayed to the main office. Footage is only ever accessed following data protection laws. For more information please see our Data Protection Policy.
The school is also equipped with an extensive intruder alarm system as well as panic buttons in strategic locations, which are linked directly to the local police.
Another method of securing the school is our digital entry system. All staff and visitors are issued with a pass, printed with their photograph and details, as well as an outline of our safeguarding information. Wearing passes printed with photographs is a very effective way to identify anyone who is not an authorised visitor, and staff will challenge anyone they believe has not been permitted entry to the school.
We also operate an access control card system. All the external doors on the ground floor of the buildings are kept locked and are only accessible with the correct access level card, meaning that any unauthorised visitor could not get into the buildings.
