We have had a fun filled half term so far with more yet to come!
In Maths we have been multiplying, dividing and learning about fractions. We have used counters and other objects so we understand practically before completing the sums. Now we are onto fractions and we are using bar models to solve our problems.
Cycle training (Bike Ability)
We brought our bikes in and signed up to be trained. We learnt how to be safe when we are cycling and how to signal to other road users, so they know where we are turning. We learnt how to switch gears to increase or decrease our speed. We learnt the ABCD check which means Air, Brakes, Chain and Directions. This helps us to check our bikes are working properly before we begin riding.
Chinese New Year celebration
Chinese New Year was on the 16th February 2018, however, we celebrated before we broke up for the holidays. We travelled around the school in our classes and did activities such as Chinese dance, ordering Zodiac animals, Origami, making Chinese lanterns, paper cutting, drawing Chinese symbols (calligraphy) and the story of the Nian monster. We thought the day was fun and gave us a chance to experience and learn what it is like to traditionally celebrate Chinese New Year.
We have looked at the process our food goes through, when it passes through our body. The process begins in our mouth, with our teeth breaking our food into tiny pieces and ends at the bottom when we go to the toilet! YUCK! We have learnt that there are 4 types of teeth in your mouth: canines, incisors, premolars and molars. It takes about 12 hours for our food to digest and enzymes help to break it down. We did a test to see what happens when bread was placed in our mouths. It was mouth-watering (literally) because our saliva made the bread soggy because we didn’t swallow it straight away.
Story week with Cinderella as a boy
We have been reading different versions of Cinderella as a boy and comparing them to the original story. We have been doing role plays linked to the stories and will produce pieces of learning to add to our display. I hope you get a chance to see it when it is complete!
We have been learning to play Brass instruments and have been getting much better at it. We practice every week and hope that we can put a performance on at the end of the year to show off our skills.
Dance – Bhangra and Street dance fusion
In PE we have been learning a dance which is Bhangra and Street dance together. We are going to be performing it in our class assembly on Wednesday 7 March 2018 at 10.30 am. Try to catch our assembly. You don’t want to miss out!
